Dillon going under the knife

Waterford's Jake Dillon could miss out on the first round of the championship.

The De La Salle clubman is in a race against time to be fit for Na Deise's Munster SHC first-round meeting with Cork on May 25th after being told he requires surgery to mend a knee cartilage problem.

After the procedure, the gifted attacker faces a six-to-eight-week lay-off, which leaves him with only a slim chance of being ready for the crunch clash with the Rebels.

One of the stars of Waterford IT's Fitzgibbon Cup success last year, Dillon registered 1-2 in each of Waterford's championship matches against Clare and Kilkenny last summer (his debut season) and would be a massive lose to new manager Derek McGrath for the Cork game.

But he has no option other than to have the operation asap: "I just have to get it done. I can't play on it."
