Clancy, Tomas

It is with sincere regret we record the passing of Tomas Clancy, Island, Stradbally, which sad event occurred recently at Care Choice Nursing Home. Tomas was born on the 17th December, 1918 to Will and Abigail Clancy. He was one of nine children. He received his early education at Stradbally N.S. A member of the farming community he was held in hig esteem. He was a great judge of horses and he bred Ambassador who won an Olympic Gold medal for Italy in show jumping at the Munich Olympics in 1972. He had a great interest in GAA and followed the Stradbally Football team and Waterford hurling and football with keen interest; having played on the Stradbally minor football team that won the 1937 County final. Tomas's great love was traditional Irish music. He started playing the mouth organ when he was going to school and, during his 85 years playing music he attended many Munster and All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoils.

He played in the Town Hall on the 20th September, 2012 at the launch of Tin Sandwich Band CD. He was pre-deceased by his wife May in 1973. His passing is much regretted not only by his sorrowing family but also by his many friends. May he rest in peace. The chief mourners were his sons Liam and Tom; daughter, Gail; brother, Mickil; sisters, Cait, Gobnait and Eileen; daughters-in-law, Deirdre and Mary; son-in-law, Watty Shortle; grandchildren, Brendan, Noel, Bobby and Marian; nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
