Davy Fitz escapes three-month ban

March 22, 2011

Clare hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald
Waterford manager Davy Fitzgerald will serve a four-week suspension - but a separate alleged infraction, which would have carried a three-month ban, was not proven.

Fitzgerald was cited by Wexford referee James Owens in the wake of the Allianz National League Division 1 game between the Deise and Tipperary at Semple Stadium earlier this month.

A three-month ban for "threatening language towards a referee" was mooted, and while that allegation was contained within Owens's report, the Central Hearings Committee has decided instead to impose a four-week suspension on Davy Fitz for the lesser charge of "abusive language towards a referee".

With the suspension starting from the date of the CHC's decision, Fitzgerald will now be prevented from patrolling the sideline for Waterford's final two Allianz League matches against Kilkenny this weekend and Offaly on Sunday week (3 April).
