Waterford look set to appoint Liam Cahill as their new senior hurling manager for 2020, according to a report from the Irish Independent this evening.

Cahill, who steered his native Tipperary to an inaugural All-Ireland U20 crown last month, is expected to succeed Paraic Fanning in the role after the latter’s decision to step down following just one season in charge with the Deise men.

An All Star attacker during Tipp’s All-Ireland success of 2001, Cahill also went on to guide the Premier County to All-Ireland minor glory in 2016 before repeating the trick two years later with the U21s.

His appointment in Waterford would mark his first at senior inter-county level after what has been a tremendous career to date in underage management.
