Cyclist Conor Hennebry, who claimed the Kerry Group Rás Mumhan title on Monday, is a former Waterford underage hurler.
The 25-year-old from Portlaw carried a two-second advantage into yesterday's fourth and final 115km stage, which ended in Killorglin, and fought hard to preserve that narrow advantage and finish top in the overall classifications.
The Viner Caremark Pactimo rider comes from a strong GAA background. He started cycling when his father got a bike under the Bike To Work Scheme, which the young Conor used to get to and from football and hurling training with the Clonea Power juvenile club.
Hennebry was good enough at the small ball game to represent Na Deise at U14 and U16 levels, winning a Tony Forristal medal along the way, but cycling has since become his sport of choice and he recorded one of the biggest wins of his career yesterday, adding to the Tour of Ulster title victory in 2016.
