With the 2018 now literally just around the corner, we take a look back on some of the most bizarre moments that happened in the GAA from this past season.

Here are the 10 we've selected:

A '45' conceded straight from a kick-out

This could well have been a first at Croke Park.

In August, Kerry goalkeeper Brian Kelly had been misfiring with his kick-outs in his county's All-Ireland SFC semi-final replay against Mayo but shortly after the 17th minute he did something astounding…He kicked the ball over his own end line.

If it's any consolation to Brian, Cillian O'Connor missed the placed-kick.

 

Umpire gets on the end of a Clare point…with his head!

This point from Clare's David Tubridy against Kerry in June took a while to come around…It may have taken the umpire a while to come around after it as well!

 

Longford's clear point is waved wide

There was no reason for Longford's Barry McKeon not to feel aggrieved when his point, which went over off the upper end of the crossbar, was waved wide by an umpire against Laois back in May.

A truly mind-boggling decision.

That goal Meath conceded against Louth 

Some might have seen it as karma at the time while some others might have seen it as plainly bizarre. One thing that is for sure is Meath's Paddy O'Rourke won't want to see it again.

Connolly goes sleeveless/RTE pundits go swoony  

Diarmuid Connolly turned a few heads when he wore a sleeveless vest during Dublin's All-Ireland SFC final warm up on the big day in September.

However, what was more bizarre was the reaction to it from RTE pundits Pat Spillane and Joe Brolly in studio.

Louth's Burns gets 12 weeks for kicking ball at an umpire

Louth forward Ryan Burns' championship was over in mid-June after he picked up a three-month ban. The suspension also stood at club level, robbing Hunterstown Rovers of their top talent for the intermediate championship.

 

Italian national anthem gets a play at Pairc Ui Rinn

On a chilly night in February, Cork and Clare lined up for Amhran na bhFiann to be played before their National League encounter at Pairc Ui Rinn…they got the Italian anthem instead.

McGinley's 95-yard run to score a point

It was a hell of a run from Kilcar's Ciaran McGinely but you get the feeling the end product wasn't what he had desired…

 

10 players see red in Castlebellingham

October may well have seen a record set in the GAA when 10 players were sent off in the Leinster club IFC game between O'Connell's of Louth and Carlow's Kilbride.

Kildare referee Noel McKenna dished out 10 red cards in Castlebellingham, where Kilbride had six players given their marching orders in the second-half alone. Two water carriers were also put outside the fence.

One fan on Twitter (@MadDeclan) asked the Louth GAA account: "What's going on there? Murder??".
