Harlesden Harps club notes

September 14, 2017

Upcoming Fixture:

Harlesden Harps will play the semi-final replay of the VGC Services Intermediate Championship this weekend when they once again do battle with St. Brendan's. The game will take place on Saturday, 16th September at 1:30pm at Greenford, pitch one, London, UB6 0NZ. After a high quality first game between the sides this replay is sure to be equally as hard fought and eventful. As usual, make sure you check public transport is in use and for any likely traffic delays, etc and ensure everyone is at the venue nice and early for a proper preparation for the game. Let's keep the momentum going as the Harps will hope to go one step further in 2017 than last years journey.

Previous Matches:

The Harps played out a high quality and enthralling encounter in this years championship quest with a thoroughly absorbing draw with St. Brendan's on a scoreline of Harps 2-07 St. Brendan's 1-10. The Harps got on top early and scores from the likes of Ryan Moran, Padraig McGoldrick, John Rafferty and a fantastic fisted goal from big Darren Murphy put the team in the driving seat. However, in fairness to Brendan's they rallied well to gradually claw back the lead and it wasn't until a long-range goal from Ashley O Halloran mid-way through the second half that the Harps got within a sniff of the winning post. This sniff was snuffed out pretty quickly in a disastrous five minute period for the Harps where they were unluckily reduced to 14 men and, almost immediately after, conceded a three pointer to fall behind for the first time in the game. With the championship exit sign shining the boys dug in and a couple of pressure frees from Padraig McGoldrick put the teams level into the closing stages. With both teams having chances to win neither team in truth deserved to lose and so a draw seemed fair when all was said and done. Roll on to more of the same for the replay!

Training:

Training continues this week taking place on Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30pm in The Shamrock Club, 307A Horn Lane, Acton, W3 0BP (nearest tube station: North Acton on the Central Line).
