All-Britain Hurling Championship Final Preview:

This coming Sunday all roads lead to Páirc na hÉireann in Birmingham where Fr. Murphy's, the London intermediate hurling champions, take on the Lancashire county champions, Fullen Gaels, in the All-Britain Hurling Final. The two clubs will meet in the final for the second consecutive year after Fullen Gaels narrowly defeated the London side in a replay last year, when extra time could not separate them first time out.

Fullen are a vastly experienced side having claimed 4 consecutive All-Britain titles. After winning the 2013 All-Britain title they went on to compete in the junior All-Ireland final, where they were defeated in Croke Park by Thomastown (Kilkenny). This year Fullen Gaels won the Lancashire county final beating Wolfe Tones (Liverpool) by 5 points. Fullen appear to have kept hold of much of their squad from 2015, this consistency which will make them very tough opposition to overcome.

Fr. Murphy's have had a wonderful year thus far, reclaiming their senior hurling status for the first time since 2014, when they were narrowly relegated in a playoff defeat at the hands of Robert Emmett's. Murphy's were widely regarded as the surprise package in this year's intermediate championship. However, an influx of talented players and gritty, determined displays have helped them remain unbeaten throughout the championship. In the London final, they conquered the much-fancied Brothers Pearse side in a thrilling contest. It is has been a remarkable achievement considering that Fr. Murphy's failed to win any of their first 4 matches at the start of the season, owing largely to the fact they lost 10 players from their 2015 panel and with the new players needing time to gel.

In the All-Britain Semi-final.= Fr. Murphy's overcame a very physical John Mitchell's side who were well drilled and up for the task. They pushed Murphy's all the way, but the men in purple and gold finally prevailed by a 3-point margin. As well as Sunday's final, Murphy's have 2 cup finals and a semi-final left to play. A truly remarkable year for the club.

Sunday will see Fullen Gaels head into the game as slight favourites, after keeping much of their squad and having narrowly defeated Fr. Murphy's in last years final.

Nevertheless, Fr. Murphy's are relishing the prospect of their second final this month and will bring good support to Birmingham.

It promises to be an almighty clash. Murphy's Abú!
