Tara /Corydon Championship game

September 19, 2016

Tara travelled to Mitcham on Sunday morning to take on Croydon in the third round of the All Britain Senior Camogie Championship.

With Tara gunning for their 8th senior title in a row this year, Croydon had been tipped as the team to stop them. The Tara girls proved too strong for  Croydon and the game had a low final score of 1-8 to 2 points.

The first 15 mins of the game saw Tara play some fantastic camogie with some superb scores starting in their own full back line. A clearance from full back Clare Killeen out to half back Sarah McNichol was laid of superbly into the hand of Fiona Morrissey. Morrissey picked out Maria Ryan to stuck it over for her first of 3 points. Anna Nyhan was on top form scoring 1-1 from play. After the first 15 mins of the game it seemed Tara found it difficult to get scores on the board although some great defending by Croydon didn't help matters. Croydon tried their best to convert some scores but seemed to be denied various times by the Tara backs, in particular Helen Murphy and Sarah McNichol. Croydon managed a point  the first half from a Caoilinn Ni Neill free making the score at half time 1-5 to 1 point.

The second half saw Croydon come out all guns blazing with some fantastic performances from full back, Ciara Keogh, wing back Niamh Kehoe and mid fielder Maeve Buckley. Despite these excellent displays, Croydon only managed 1 point in the second half from Una McGouran. Tara added another 4 points in the second half 3 from Fiona Morrissey and one form Oralith Jennings. The final score certainly was no reflection on the intensity and skill shown in the game.

Tara have a bye next weekend and Croydon take on Shire Gaels in Birmingham.
