A major part of the funding put forward for the redevelopment work on the Irish TV grounds may be withdrawn if work does not commence.

That is the word from the Irish Government who may withdraw the €600,000 that they have promised for the redevelopment work.

The project was due to begin this summer, but the London GAA board put back the start date until next summer. However, should the work not have started by next June then the grant timeline from the Irish Government will have expired.

The Irish Post reports that a Government spokesman said: "In 2013 a grant of €600,000 was awarded from the Emigrant Support Programme towards the GAA's redevelopment of the Ruislip GAA grounds in London, the headquarters of the London County Board.

"This award was made on the basis that the funding will be ring fenced for the development of the spectator facilities. It has been agreed that the Emigrant Support Programme funding will be available towards the project until mid 2016."
