London county board have been dealt a major set back in their plans to redevelop their Ruislip venue.

The Irish World newspaper in the UK reports that the board and its developers, Tobin Consulting UK Ltd, will this week be forced put back work by at least a year while they look for contractors who can stick to its original budget, which is thought to to be around £4.17m (€5.9m).

After many years in development, the new stadium was expected to be finally opened by May 2016 to put London's GAA facilities on a par with the best as the county-level ground for the Irish community in the English capital and throughout the rest of Britain.

However, consultants spearheading the project have now saw costs soar by as much as 50 per cent over the original budget, which has forced those behind the redevelopment back to the drawing board with their consultants to see what bits of the original specification can be left out or sacrificed, if necessary, to match the original budget.

London have already received a commitment of £1.3 million from Croke Park and £500,000 from Ireland's Department of foreign Affairs and Trade, along with raising £500,000 themselves for the redevelopment.
