Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes

August 04, 2015

Seniors
The Seniors were crowned Division 1 champions with an emphatic victory over Fulham Irish putting 2-17 on the scoreboard. The Gaels swept into a 1-3 to 0-2 lead within 10 minutes and never took their foot off the pedal. Adrian Hanlon scored a personal tally of 1-6, Liam Gavigan continued his fine form and Cathal Magee controlled proceedings on the half forward line. The boys are hitting form at the right time with the 1st round of the championship against the Round Towers this Saturday 8th of August at 3pm in Ruislip.

Juniors
The juniors played Thomas MacCurtains on Sunday in Ruislip needing a win to stay in the championship. The game was a tight affair with the scoreboard changing in favour of each team throughout the first half. The Gaels went into the dressing room at half time 2 points up.
The 2nd half mirrored the 1st with MacCurtains leveling the scores and then taking the lead. The Gaels got back level but MacCurtains raced into a 3 point lead with about 15 mins left on the clock. There was a bit of handbags and the boys went down to 14 men for the final 10 minutes. This galvanized the Gaels and the boys got back on level terms before taking the lead going into the final 2 minutes. The game was played out with some brave defending from the Gaels and they put MacCurtains to the sword in injury time with another point to bring an end to a very exciting game. The next game is also a must win against Dulwich to advance to the semi-finals.

Reserves
The reserves played the Kingdom on Thursday evening in Greenford in the league. The Kingdom raced into an advantageous lead after a slow start from the Gaels with the boys going in at half time out of contention. With time to regroup the boys battled back, hit a couple of goals and found themselves back within a score of the kingdom. Unfortunately the Kingdom hit four unanswered points to assure themselves of the win but it was a very entertaining 2nd half with some great football played.
