Parnells Club notes

June 26, 2015

Under 8's
Parnells under 8's have been very active between training and blitzes over the past couple of weeks.
First up on the blitz front was Tara's event where we entered two teams.
Both teams did extremely well and kept up their enthusiasm and energy levels despite the early afternoon rain. A special mention to Jamie and Paul Logan who stepped in at short notice to successfully manage one of the teams. Also well done to Oliver Coupland who for a relative newcomer showed plenty of endeavour.
At North London Shamrocks blitz the following week we entered one under 8 team. This was one of the best displays by our under 8's under the stewardship of John Rattigan. In particular some excellent kick passing and blocking was exhibited by all our lads. Well done to all!
Next up is our blitz on the 4th July.

Under 10s

Parnells U 10's had their first taste of competitive football when they participated in the Ann Boyle Memorial Tournament at Roger Casement's club in Coventry on Saturday 20th June.

They started against the John Mitchells from Liverpool and soon were playing fluent football with the removal of zones the boys found the freedom to move around the pitch and to take fantastic scores from all angles! This game they won easily!

Up next were the Casement's they proved to be a harder test and in the first half the scores were evenly matched, the boys came out in the second half and overpowered the Casement's with their fitness and accurate scoring with great scoring from the Tiny but Mighty Callum Fitzgerald and Ironman Joseph O'Connor who put the goal in the back of the net securing the teams lead and winning the game.

Game three against Finbars was again a close and testing game in the first half but the boys regained their composure and finished off the game quickly in the 2nd half playing in the driving rain the boys continued with determind efforts and pulled it out of the bag to finish with a 2 point lead and a place in the final.

Up came the final and again we were up against a very strong and determined Roger Casement side!! With a strong mid field Parnells had to up their game early on in order to take the lead. Both teams started strong and at half time there was nothing in it! In the 2nd half the Parnells boys showed great character and played undoubtedly the best football of their lives to win and to lift their first trophy ever which will be only one of many if their flare and determination of this day is anything to go by! (Now to get them singing lessons!)

Well done to all the boys who played with determination and great skill, thank you to Roger Casements for a fantastic and well organised event.

Under 12s
On Saturday, Parnells U12s travelled to Coventry to take part in the Roger Casements Annual Ann Boyle Memorial Family Day. Travelling with a small squad of 10 players we were placed in a group of 4 teams playing John Mitchels, Roger Casements and St. Lawrences. We came through the group stages with 3 wins out of 3, and played some superb football along the way. We would play Roger Casements again in the final, and the boys made sure of the win with a well disciplined and clinical display. In the 4 games, all 10 of our players registered scores on the day which is a great feat in itself. Congratulations to all who played: Gearóid Moore, Aidan Doran, Matthew Sheridan, Darragh Griffin, Beanón Corrigan, Ronan Hutchins, Luke Keane, Jamie Logan, Seamus Curry and our captain on the day Patrick Murphy. Well Done and thank you.

U12 league matches this Saturday at Dulwich Harps, throw in 12 noon. We will leave Northwick Park @ 10 am. Help with transport would be appreciated.

Under 14s
Congratulations to Lewis Dickinson of our U14 team, who was named 'Emerging Young Leader' in the annual Three Rivers and Watford School Sports Partnership awards evening on Monday night. Lewis was nominated by his school, St. Joan of Arc, for his efforts and contribution to the Junior Sports Leader programme. This is a magnificent achievement and all of us at Parnells are very proud of you. Well Done.

The team were unlucky after playing some superb football on the day to be beaten in the final at Coventry by 1 point - well done to all the lads who played with passion.

Girls Exhibition @ Ruilsip
On Sunday 21st June, the London Ladies played their counterparts from Wexford in the Championship in Ruislip.
In attempt to promote girls football in London , six Parnells girls took part in some exhibition matches versus Taras , St Clarets and TCG.
In a friendly atmosphere, each team got 3 matches and produced some good competitive football. Girls numbers are generally small so I was a good opportunity not only to see the seniors play and have something to aspire to but also to play on the county ground and have decent match time. Although it was a short day, it was enjoyable and something that will hopefully happen more often in the future.  "
