Club JFC: Mitchell's edge Moate to make the decider

John Mitchell's of Liverpool had three points to spare over Moate All Whites of Westmeath in the All Ireland Club Junior Football Championship semi final at Pairc Tailteann.

Mitchells were first off the mark when Michael Molloy pointed. The game was held up for twenty minutes when Moate keeper Darren McArdle received a nasty bang to his head. An ambulance was required before the game got underway again. The Westmeath club played with they wind but were guilty of some bad wides and the teams went in at the break level 0-3 each.

Denis O'[Neill and Gareth Murray traded points early in the second half before the Liverpool club made the decisive move. O'Neill and Sean Rice set up Westmeath man Kieran Lynam for a goal. Patrick Mulligan, John McDermott and Francis Cassidy raised white flags to open up a six point lead. Moate lost midfielder Eoghan Dalton to a black card but fought back bravely. Substitute Cian Bradley brought them back in to the game with a fine goal. Aaron O'Neill and Bradley pointed to close the gap to two but Kevin Kane steadied the Mitchell ship with the last score of the game to set up a date in Croke Park against either Brosna of Kerry or Tyrone's Rock. The winners lost Lynam in the closing stages to a second yellow card.
