London football boss Paul Coggins has slammed the so-called 'Seanie Johnston rule' which is set to scupper his plans to bring new recruits on board next year.

The controversial rule was introduced at Congress in 2012 to ensure that players can't line out for a new county before playing in the local club championship.

London got around it in the past two years by bringing forward the start of their club championship to January, thus allowing new players to play in the Allianz League, but the fixture problems it caused has forced the Exiles to put back the start of next year's club championship until April.

And this will have serious implications for the county side, with Coggins fuming in the Irish Daily Mirror: "It's something I'm really quite annoyed by.

"I haven't made a big deal of it until now because we have gotten around it in the last two years by starting our championship in January.

"But if something isn't done now, a lot of good fellas are going to miss out on an entire league campaign. If that happens, it's very hard to then bring them in for championship football."
