McDermotts captain dedicates win to Folan

Sean McDermotts captain Niall McCooney dedicated Sunday's Warwickshire SFC final victory over John Mitchels to former club member Coley Folan.

Folan's sudden in July had left a "gaping hole in the club" and after Sunday's victory that the Galway native was the first name to come to mind for McCooney when he delivered his acceptance speech on behalf of McDermotts.

"We dedicate this victory to Coley Folan. This is for him," said McCooney before hoisting the cup aloft.

He continued: "We love our club and we are very passionate about it. We have to thank all the people behind the scenes at the club, our manager Keith Sweeney and a special mention to the young, English-born lads in the squad - even at just the ages of 18 or 19 they are a credit to the club and themselves.

McDermotts were 1-8 to 0-10 winners over Mitchels in the replay at Pairc na hEireann.
