Fixtures row erupts

The failure of a London IHC championship match to go ahead because there was no referee present has caused uproar from the clubs involved.

Fulham Irish and Cu Chulainns were due to play the IHC at Wormwood Scrubs last Saturday week, but despite some players travelling from outside the city to get to the match, it did not proceed, because there was no match official present.

Speaking to the Irish Post, Fulham Irish manager Mick Ruby stressed that making the players come from great distances to play and the match and then for no referee to be present was the fault of the county board.

"It's unfair," said Ruby. "Lads are giving days at the weekend, lads travelling up from Gillingham and some with football fixtures the next day. Whoever is doing the fixtures doesn't talk to clubs.

"There is a lack of communication with the clubs in general. The County Board needs to talk to clubs. Talk to any of the intermediate clubs, there is a bias (towards football). There is no initiative to promote hurling."
