St Kiernan's club notes

July 08, 2014
Well Done
To St. Kiernan's U14 players - Matthew Joyce, Patrick Boyle, Jack Ryan, Michael Keohane, Caolan Doyle & Jamie Caulfield on being part of the North London team that reached the division final at the National Feile Peil na N'og in Connacht last weekend. All the boys played well with Michael, Jack, Matthew and Patrick contributing crucial scores in games Jamie playing his part in a strong London defence and Caolan had some great displays in goal. Thanks to the Oranmore/Maree GAA club who hosted the boys who had a great weekend of football and craic.

Well done to all the boys and girls who took part in the U6/8/10's football blitz at Harrow Rugby Club last Sunday the 6th of July where Parnell's were the hosts. A big thanks to all at Parnell's for organising a great day. Some of our kids played in their first ever U6's games which great fun to watch.

U14.
It has been a very busy week for our U14 team which saw them playing two finals in five days. First up was the U14 London Championship final against Dulwich Harps on Tuesday 1st July at Ruislip. We started the game very well and contained a very strong Dulwich team for the first quarter and took the lead with a great goal from Jack Ryan and our defence were playing well. Dulwich's strength began to show and they went in ahead at half time. In the second half St. Kiernan's tried to remain strong but the Dulwich team kept trying to get goals which they did breach our defence on a few occasions. The St. Kiernan's boys kept playing the game as they know best and demonstrated some excellent Gaelic football skills and showed a fantastic attitude and composure right to the end. Well done to Dulwich Harps who were too strong in the end and won the game on a score line of 6-08 to 3-04.

The 2nd game was the U14 league shield final against Thomas McCurtains/NLS played on Sat 5th July at Ruislip. We started the game very slowly and could not find our rhythm against a good McCurtains/NLS team in the first half and we trailed by three points at half time in a score line of 3-03 to 2-03.
After a very strong team talk at half time the St. Kiernan's boys began to play more like the team they are and applied the 'Dulwich tactic' of going for goals of which seven came their way in the second half with Joseph McCarry, Jack Ryan and Caoitle Healy scoring two goals each. Credit must go to the McCurtains/NLS boys as they played right to the final whistle but St. Kiernan's went on to win the game by nine points with a score line of St. Kiernan's 10-03 Thomas McCurtains/NLS 5-09.
There were some great performances from our boys noticeable Matthew Joyce, Patrick Boyle and Jack Ryan.
