SFC Qualifier: Limerick survive scare

June 21, 2014

Limerick 1-16
London 1-13

A terrific second half fightback from London had the sides tied at 1-13 apiece with just five minutes remaining, but the Treaty men finished the stronger to hold out for a three point victory.

Limerick flew out of the blocks and looked set for victory after building a lead of 0-8 to 0-1 after 25 minutes.

London gradually played themselves back into the game and by half-time they trailed 0-11 to 0-6.

Whatever Paul Coggins told his players at the interval appeared to work wonders as the Exiles emerged a rejuvenated side in the second half.

London upped the intensity and by the 42nd minute had their noses in front following a Damien Dunleavy goal which put London ahead, 1-9 to 0-11.

The sides then exchanged scores until a goal from Gearoid Hegarty allowed Limerick to take the lead once again with 12 minutes remaining.

London responded well and scores from captain Lorcan Mulvey and Tony Gaughan tied the match with five minutes to play.

Just as a shock result seemed on the cards, Limerick proved their worth to finish strongly with three points in the closing minutes to seal victory and progress to the next round.
