Tara Camogie club notes

April 22, 2014
Tara Camogie Club are hosting a Camogie 7s tournament at Tir Chonaill Park on Saturday 26th April 2014.

This will be the club's eighth tournament having their first in 2006 on their 20th Anniversary. Holycross Ballycahill of Tipperary attended that first tournament and are back again for the sixth time. They've collected a fair amount of silverware along the way including the Getjar Senior Cup twice and Siobhan Ryan & Noreen Flanagan have both picked up Player of the Tournament Awards. This year they are sending a more "mature" bunch of players. Mags Shanahan is returning to Holycross after playing in Toronto for 2 years and they welcome back Sinead O'Dwyer & Denise Browne from retirement. Holycross is also represented in the Tara club by Ann Gleeson who has competed in several tournaments against her sister Sarah. The club are represented at county level with 4 girls on the u16 team and 1 player in the u18 team. The club currently graded at Junior A in Tipperary are captained by Linda Fanning and under the watchful eye of Mags Fanning. This group are always a competition favourite.

A 45-strong group from Castletara, Cavan are fielding 2 teams at the Tournament. The club was established in 1966 and it is local to the Ballyhaise/Castletara area. The playing peak for the Club was back in the 1990's at both Senior and Junior League and Championship Level. The Club also have a very enthusiastic underage strategy encouraging young players from national school towards competition level.

Also competing in the Senior competition will be Croydon, Fr Murphys and hosts Tara, who won the senior competition last year for the first time. Incidentally Tara won both the senior and junior honours last year. Getjar are again the Senior Cup sponsors which they've sponsored since 2006. Cara Personnel sponsor the Senior Plate competition.

The Junior competition sees all junior teams competing this year.
