Seamus O'Brien.

Two GAA clubs in London and Meath are holding separate fundraisers for a former team-mate who lost his leg following a work-related accident.

Seamus O'Brien from Fires in Co. Kerry had his leg amputated last month after being in constant pain since he was crushed between a dump truck and a JCB bucket on a Cork construction site in February 2018.

The 49-year-old played football for clubs in Kerry, Meath, London and Chicago and now two of those clubs, Kingdom Kerry Gaels and Seneschalstown, are appealing to the GAA community to support their fundraising initiatives aimed at raising over €200,000 for three prosthetic legs which will enable Seamus to walk again.

Seneschalstown GAA club in Meath are hosting a 5k Santa Run at 1.30pm today while a GoFundMe page set up by the Kingdom Kerry Gaels Over 35s in London last month has so far raised over €17,000

Anyone wishing to donate to Kingdom Kerry Gaels GoFundMe page can do so at https://www.gofundme.com/f/seamus-obrien-support.
