Parnells club notes

November 04, 2019

The Parnells Ladies unfortunately lost their All Ireland IFC QF last week to St Nathy’s of Sligo.  After imperious form winning London and Great Britain, the team couldn’t produce the form they needed for a win on the day.  At half time they were down 1-10 to 0-3 and could not see their way back.  Final score 1-17 to 0-4.  Perhaps a missed opportunity but surely they will reflect back and take heart from the achievements of this season and build upon the fantastic foundation for 2020.  Well done to Tommie Donohue, 50 years involved with London GAA and to all the players.

With all the games and competitions over for the season, the club moves to the planning phase and also a little bit of time for ‘socialising’.  The Club would like to wish our Youth Chairperson, Colin McGuinness a happy birthday as he reaches a ‘milestone’ birthday!  The Junior team are off to the races on November 16th, meeting at Buckley’s in Queensbury at 9.15am.  The Youth section will be announcing the details for the NYE celebration following last year’s very successful celebration.  Details to follow.  The club’s dates for the club’s AGM’s are also to be arranged and again details will be announced soon.

The Club would like to express their sincere condolences to Sinead Griffin and Danny Twomey on the passing of their uncle Timothy (Tadgh) Twomey, aged 82, on the 22nd October 2019.  Originally from Killowney, Old head, Ballinspittle, Co Cork.  An informative and very interesting obituary can be found on www.corkathletics.org as he was a renowned athlete.  Tadhg was a member of both Knocnacurra AC and later Bandon AC and won a total of 34 Irish titles for a variety of disciplines from 1960 to 1980.  He was presented with the Bandon AC Hall of Fame award in 2011.  May he rest in peace.

The outdoor training for the season has now finished but even though the season is drawing to a close, Parnells are always happy to welcome new players at our bases, Harrow Rugby Club and Northwick Park, across all age groups and ability.  For U6-17 please contact Colin McGuinness (07779 340398) or Veronica Bailey (07768 635534) and for the Senior/Junior teams, please contact Tony Griffin (07966 160999) or Dennis Diggins (07768 352680).  Details for winter training to be announced.
