Tir Chonaill Gaels manager Paul Coggins admits that they were bitterly disappointed to lose their Connacht club SFC clash against Clann na nGael, but stressed that he hoped they had done the county proud.

The London champions pushed their Roscommon counterparts all the way at Dr Hyde Park last weekend and had they taken their chances, the result may have been different.

Writing in his column for the Irish Post, Coggins stated that he hoped the performance had lifted the perception of London football.

“We were devastated at the final whistle but we hope that we done London GAA proud,” wrote Coggins. “As a county, we deserve more respect for the effort and work being put in and - although we didn’t get the outcome we wanted, I do feel that we earned the respect of everyone at the Hyde last Sunday.

“Our chairman John Lacey spoke of that in our dressingroom afterwards and it is a huge positive for the London champions to come into the Connacht championship instead of meeting the provincial champions three or four months after winning the London championship.”
