All-Ireland club JFC: Naomh Colmcille win in Edinburgh

December 09, 2017

Naomh Colmcille have had their eight-week suspension lifted

Naomh Colmcille (Donegal) 1-10

Dunedin Connollys (Britain) 2-6

A late Ryan McErlean point proved decisive as Naomh Colmcille edged out Dunedin Connollys in Edinburgh in a hard-fought All-Ireland club JFC quarter-final this afternoon.

McErlean's goal at the start of the second half had the Donegal and Ulster champions 1-4 to 0-4 in front, but they were twice rocked by goals at the other end before finishing the stronger to set up a semi-final meeting with Munster kingpins Knocknagree early in the New Year.

All-Britain champions Dunedin had held a slender 0-4 to 0-3 lead at the break and regained the lead after McErlean's goal thanks to a 38th minute Sean Malee penalty and then a free from the same player.

But three unanswered points from John Fullerton, Willie Gillespie and Gerard Curran saw Ryan McKinley's men retake the lead. McErlean had the visitors four up before Damien Keane hit an equalising goal in stoppage-time.

But there was still time for McErlean to win it for the Donegal men.
