Tyrone County Board's decision not to grant Mickey Harte an extension of his term as senior football manager has been described as 'madness' by Tomás Ó Sé .

Harte's request to have his current two year agreement extended into 2018 was turned down earlier this month and the Kerry great can't understand why.

Speaking to The Irish News, he conceded that he didn't know the ins and outs of the situation but declared: "It's madness.

"I don't know if it's anything to do with RTÉ [media ban] or sponsors. I get on very well with Mickey and I admire him a lot. It's a pity because we want to see and hear these new Tyrone players.

"There is no doubt Tyrone are a team that are coming. They have a great set of players. I cannot understand the situation in Tyrone. When you see all these guys, great Tyrone players like Peter Canavan and Sean Cavanagh coming out and backing Mickey Harte to the hilt, why the county board can't back the man...

"I don't know if it's to do with sponsorship. Are they [the county board] being pressurised? But for God's sake, you've a man that has won at all levels, brought Tyrone to the holy grail so many times, the man deserves to go on his own time."
