McCann keen to emulate Orchard run

Tiernan McCann believes there is no reason why Tyrone can't emulate Armagh's achievement in reaching the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals last year.

Since falling at the first hurdle in Ulster against Donegal, the Red Hands have won two games in the All-Ireland qualifiers against Limerick and Meath and will be just one step away from the last-eight if they can account for Tipperary in Thurles this weekend.

"We saw Armagh getting a run last year, and the confidence they got after beating us, they came close to beating Donegal in an All-Ireland quarter-final," McCann told the Strabane Weekly News after the Red Hands' win over Meath last Saturday.

"So that's probably the same sort of platform we're trying to develop, but one game at a time. It's a quick turnaround, it's about getting back to Garvaghey, no resting on our laurels."

McCann will be pushing for a starting place on Saturday after coming off the bench at half-time and producing a man of the match display against the Royals.

"It was one of those cagey games that it was hard to get into. I was watching on from the stand there, I could see how the game was developing," he said.

"We were working very hard, but not really punishing Meath, not getting scores away. That suited me in the second half, when the game opened up, just to go at them, no holds barred, throw off the shackles, just go for it, and it worked out all right in the end."
