Support Tyrone ladies

LADIES FOOTBALL

As Tyrone ladies prepare for their pemultimate national league clash of the season against Dublin at Parnell Park, the counties footballers have unveiled plans for their final home game of the campaign on April 12th. With another tough assignment on the cards this Sunday and with Dublin fancied to annex another haul of points at Tyrone's expence, the focus falls on the game against Laois, Tyrone's final tie and only their second game at home of the division one campaign.
A Tyrone win On April 12th at Clanabogan Park could well be enough for the Red Hand side to remain in the top flight and to make it a major event the players and county board have launched a major "Support our Team" campaign. Spearheaded by the senior players all the counties primary schools are recieving free tickets for the game through the county coaches and the Drumragh club are making massive efforts to make it a memorable day.

"We are following on from other counties in our attempt to promote the ladies game " explained team captain Neamh Woods, "Some counties have ben lucky to have a lot of home games to work with, for us we have had just two so this really is our only chance, it works out well too as it's a game we need to win"
The atmosphere generated by a good crowd at Drumragh could well be just the boost Tyrone need in this crunch fixture but before that it's Parnell Park this weekend, Tyrone do have injury issues still and a return to action by Neamh O'Neill may still be a week or so off while Shannon Quinn and Emma Hegarty also remain doubts for what will be a mammoth task.

Ulster Ladies Minor Championship

Donegal v Tyrone

Tyrone Ladies Minors opened their Ulster Championship campaign with a victory over a much fancied Donegal side.

Playing with a strong breeze in their favour the Red Hand girls went into an early 4 point lead with scores from Shannon Monaghan and Ellen McGowan and two converted frees from Dearbhala McDonald before Donegal got on the score board. Tyrone were now dominating the game and the lively trio of Shannon Monaghan, Meabh Mallon and Cailin McCann were causing the Donegal defence all sorts of problems. Ellen McGowan added two goals and a point for Tyrone before Sasha Byrne volleyed the ball into the Tir Conaill net from 20m to extend the Red Hand lead. Donegal kept plugging away and got three scores from frees. The first period ended with points for Tyrone from Monaghan, McGowan and McDonald.

The second half saw Tyrone now playing into the wind and Donegal signalled their comeback intentions with a goal scored straight from the throw-in. This period saw the Red Hand girls under huge pressure from Donegal but an impressive defensive performance thwarted the Donegal attack time after time. Aoife McConnell, Slaine McCarroll and the non-stop Emma Quinn were solid in the Tyrone back line. Tyrone struggled to get scores but McGowan added another goal to her impressive tally and Sasha Byrne added a point to keep the pressure on Donegal. As the game entered the last five minutes Tyrone conceded two soft goals, one from a 13m free kick, which reduced their lead to only five points. However, the Red Hand defence stood firm and Tyrone emerged with a win against the pre-Championship favourites.

The Tyrone management were satisfied with the performance and the result and will look forward to their next game against Antrim in 3 weeks.  Martin Conway added that "this was a team performance. All the girls worked extremely hard, particularly in the second half against the wind and under severe pressure from Donegal".

Laura Kane (Captain), Aoife McConnell, Slaine McCarroll, Rebecca Coyle, Emma Brennan, Caoleann Conway, Cailin McCann, Meabh Mallon, Sinead Donnelly, Sasha Byrne 1-1, Eva McCaul, Emma Quinn, Shannon Monaghan 0-2, Dearbhala McDonald 0-3, Ellen McGowan 3-4. Subs: Naomh Barr for Eva McCaul, Louise McCarney for Ellen McGowan
