Tyrone referees have threatened to go on strike

Referees in Tyrone have threatened to go on strike in a row of match expenses.

Match officials in the county want the current rate of £25 for an adult match raised to £30, and proposed to withdraw their services at a seminar in Garvaghey, which was attended by more than 60 referees on Wednesday night, if the county board does not meet their demands.

The Irish News reports that the proposal received almost unanimous support from referees.

Referees in neighbouring Derry are paid £40 for officiating at adult games, while their counterparts in Antrim receive £20 per game plus 35p per mile.

Any strike action by referees would result in no club games being played in the Red Hand County. A pre-planned meeting between the county's management committee and referees' committee is set to discuss the issue on Monday night.
