Gortin Club and Parish Golf Event

The community of Gortin and Rouskey launched a summer fun and fundraising event at the weekend with the Gortin Rouskey Golf Classic 2014 set to take place on Sunday 20th July at Strabane Golf Course.
The Golf Classic is a joint fundraising event for the parish of Lower Badoney and Gortin St. Patrick's GAA club which has been running now for three years. This year's event is targeting funds to make some much needed improvements to the local parish hall.
The event will be attractive to golfers with a prize fund valued at £1500 and is open to both individual golfers, and, new for 2014 is a special 4 ball competition for GAA clubs.
The Golf Classic has been brought about by member of both Gortin St Patrick's GAA and Strabane Golf Club, Billy Doherty, who is the event organiser. He said, 'The Golf Classic is a great day out, and especially for golfers who haven't yet played the Strabane course and the prize fund is always a big draw. It's also good to get the people of Gortin and Rouskey out playing and working together to improve local facilities'.
Speaking on behalf of the Parish Pastoral Council, John McGarvey echoed this when he said, 'We are looking forward to another enjoyable day out at Strabane Golf Course on 20th July. We would encourage all golfers from the parish to call their golfing friends and relatives to join us. The call is also out to fellow GAA clubs in Tyrone to enter teams in the new 4 ball competition. We are looking forward to gathering in all support to make this a great event for both club and parish'.
There are opportunities to show support for the Gortin Rouskey Golf by sponsorship of a green (£30) or a tee ( £50). Tee times are bookable with Strabane Golf Club on 028 71 382271. Entry fees for both the individual event (£20 p.p.) and the 4 Ball competition (£25 p.p.) are payable on the day of the event. A special Strabane Golf Club member rate applies.
