Tyrone manager Mickey Harte believes that the GAA must do more to keep their top stars here.

On the back of the fact that Cathal McShane has turned down the chance of a career in the AFL due to a job opportunity he has been given in Tyrone, Harte has called on the GAA to step in and stop the exodus of GAA players to a career in Aussie Rules football.

Kerry have taken steps to stop their players from going down under by urging local businesses to give them job opportunities, something Harte agrees with.

“That’s true, unless there are good people there who offer an alternative to people who have got an offer out there to a professional sport, that’s what’s going to happen, we’re going to lose our players,” Harte told the Ulster Herald.

“But that said we in the GAA as a whole should be guarding our players to keep them for the public here because that is what we want to see, to see our top Gaelic football athletes playing Gaelic football.”
