A new GAA club in Tyrone has been formed following the merger of Newtownstewart and Dregish Pearse Og.

Naomh Eoghan will take the field for the first time next year after the Tyrone county board gave the merger the green light at their monthly meeting on Tuesday night. It's believed the two clubs had been in talks for the last two years. The Newtownstewart club has existed since 1945, winning the Tyrone JFC last year, while Dregish celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018.

The merger comes after reports that Dregish – who played senior league football in the 1980s – would struggle to field on their own next year due to dwindling playing numbers.
