Killeeshil club notes

October 02, 2019

This week we have to thank all you Killeeshil Gaels for coming out in huge numbers to support our Fundraising Weekend which took place last weekend 28/29th September. On the Saturday night, we held a very successful barbeque when the Community Centre was packed with guests who loved the burgers and later in the night, The Miracles wowed the crowd with their repertoire of music. On the night we held a very successful raffle with the winners being Lauren Blake who won the 1st prize which was a weekend for 2 plus one evening meal in the Great Northern Hotel, Sean-Paul McGuigan won the 2nd prize - a meal for 4 in Viscounts, 3rd prize a £50 voucher in Diva was won by Lorraine Kelly and 4th prize was a bottle of brandy won by Philip Donaghy. On the Sunday, the action got underway at 2pm with a feast of football from all our youth footballers, all the girls and boys show-cased their wonderful skills. Every youth player was entered in a raffle on the day for taking part in our celebrations and the winners where Eva McKenna who won 1st prize – a £100 Todds Leap Voucher, 2nd prize was a £25 Begley Sports voucher won by Matthew Kelly and 3rd prize was a £25 Begley Sports voucher won by Barry Daly. After the youth football exhibition, the Branty Pipe Band led a parade of all our players around the pitch finishing with The National Anthem in front of our stand where all our supporters had assembled. Then we had the official opening of our stand with Gerard Donaghy performing compere duties as Father Pat Hannigan blessed the Stand, Tyrone County Chairman Michael Kerr officially opened the Stand and we had speeches from our own Club Chairman, Martin Russell and our Club Trustee, Anthony McGonnell. After all the formalities were concluded, Dan McCartan flew over our pitch as our long awaited “Drop The Ball” fundraiser took place. 5 balls were dropped from the aeroplane and our top team of engineers set about working out who owned the squares where the balls had been dropped. All our supporters congregated in the Community Centre where they were provided with tea & sandwiches and burgers as they eagerly awaited the results. Before the results were revealed , a signed International Rules Jersey which included an autograph from our own club star Kevin Hughes was presented to the crowd – this jersey was donated to our club by two of our members, Barry Daly and Malachy Holland. Thank you men, what a lovely gift. Then came the moment everyone was waiting for, the results…. 5) Charlie McAinley, Clonavaddy won £100, 4) Kity McGinn, Goland won £100, 3) Kathryn Tierney, Aughnagar won £100, 2) Colly Fish, Dungannon won £200 and 1) John McCabe, Clonoe won £500. The Under 13 boys have their first game this Saturday (5th), away to Moortown with throw-in at 1130 am.

The U16 girls played Trillick on Monday (30th) and unfortunately were defeated on the night. The girls are out again this Sunday (6th), when they entertain Coalisland with an 11 am start.

Our Senior Ladies competed in the Ulster Club Championship last Saturday (28th) when they travelled to Kinawley to face Cill Naile at the quarter final stage. In what was a close game, with the lead continually changing sides, our Ladies were behind at the final whistle by 2 points. It was a gallant effort from our ladies who fought tooth and nail to the bitter end. Yous done the club proud representing us in Ulster. Our ladies are back in action this Saturday (5th) when they face Trillick in a League Semi-Final at home with throw in at 1.30 pm. Good luck to our Senior Ladies & their management team as they bid to reach the League Final. We would encourage all Club members and supporters to get out and support our ladies.

Training continues this Thursday night at 8pm for all senior and reserve players in preparation for league matches this Saturday (5th) as we travel to Dunmoyle to face Errigal Ciaran. Reserve game at 1530 hrs and Senior game throws in 1700 hrs. Please go along and cheer on our boys!

We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Matilda Daly (Gortlenaghan Road) on her recent bereavement. We ask every Killeeshil Gael to say a prayer or just spare a thought for the sick and their families within our Parish.
