Longford manager Padraig Davis admits that Saturday’s All-Ireland SFC qualifier against Tyrone will not be an easy task, but he is buoyed by the Midlanders home results against so-called bigger teams in the qualifiers.

Tyrone are strong favourites to overcome the Longford hurdle tomorrow evening, but they will not be complacent if history is anything to go by.

Longford gave the Red Hand County one hell of a scare at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park back in 2011 and two years before that Kerry almost got the shock of their lives, while Mayo did get a shock more recently.

Davis feels that his charges can take inspiration from those results and produce another fine display against a side that ma be fragile following their humbling by Donegal in the Ulster SFC semi-final.

“This is a savage opportunity for the players. Tyrone are coming off the back of a loss and that will not sit comfortably with them,” Davis told the Ulster Herald.

“We are getting them at home and we are getting them at a good time. We have to give ourselves a real chance; that’s the reality of it. We have been here before. Every single time we have played a big gun in a qualifier, particularly at home, we have performed.

“We have to give ourselves a chance of what would be a huge shock. It would be the biggest win; well that I would ever remember for Longford. That’s the way we look at it.”
