Tyrone's Conall McCann in action against Fermanagh in the Dr McKenna Cup

Conall McCann says the McKenna Cup presents Tyrone’s fringe players with an opportunity to claim starting jerseys.

The Red Hands – who never play challenge matches - have qualified for yet another final in the Ulster subsidiary competition and will face Armagh on Saturday night before opening their Division One campaign away to Kerry eight days later.

“For a right few boys, including myself, these games are the most important we’ll play if we want to get game time later on,” the Killyclogher clubman told The Irish Daily Mirror.

“Everyone is out to impress and Mickey obviously has a tough choice for the first league game picking 26, never mind the 15 to start. It’s a good problem to have and it will set us up well going into the first league game with Kerry.

“Any player that comes in and does well I’m really happy for them. If they deserve their spots then fair play to them. Obviously some of these players are my competition but it’s just about showing in these games what I’m capable of.”
