Holders Tyrone overcame the stern challenge of Derry in today’s Dr McKenna Cup semi-final at the Athletic Grounds.

The Red Hand County prevailed on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-8 and will now face Armagh – who pipped Donegal by 0-14 to 1-10 – in the decider.

A five-point contribution from half-time substitute Peter Harte was a key ingredient in Tyrone’s winning formula.

When the half-time whistle was sounded the teams were all square on 0-6 apiece.

Patrick Coney netted the game’s only goal in the 44th minute to establish a 1-7 to 0-8 lead for the Oak Leafers but Damien McErlain’s charges only added one more point to their tally.

At the opposite end of the field, two points without reply from Harte got Mickey Harte’s men back on level terms and they pushed on to record a three-point success.
