Colm Cavanagh has revealed how he used online criticism to motivate himself in the early part of his Tyrone career.

The back-to-back All Star winner explained to reporters on the PwC All-Stars tour to Philadelphia how he used to seek out criticism of himself on discussion forums to improve his game.

“I’ve a lot to be thankful for that because I’ve seen the other side, I’ve seen the early stages of not doing so well and getting a wee bit of criticism, ‘Oh he’s only on now because Sean’s there’. I’ve seen that side of it," he said.

“People talked about it, but if anything it drove me on more. You just wanted to go more at it and go harder.

“That was the curiosity of me. I would have had no problem reading it and I’ve no problem now reading criticism or reading good things, bad things and whatnot.

“I’m thick-skinned, I can take it, like. I can take it when it’s warranted, like. But yeah I would have went looking for it and said, ‘That’s fine, I’ll read that and deal with it’.
