Strabane Sigersons club notes

July 18, 2018

Adult Men;

Sigersons will face Owen Roes this Friday night in Páirc Mhíc Sioghair in the Reserve Championship Quarter Final at 7.30pm, all supports for the lads is much appreciated.

Summer Camp 2018;

The Club Tyrone summer camp was a major success in Sigersons last week with over 100 children enjoying 4 days of Gaelic Games and fun, a massive thank you to all the coaches both paid and voluntary for all their hard work and dedication, thanks also to all the parents who helped out with the tea and coffee.

Coffee Morning;

Strabane Sigersons would like to thank everyone who contributed to a very enjoyable coffee morning at the Club last Thursday.

Thanks to Strabane Training Services, Joe Deans and Jimmy Flanagan who were more than generous with their donations of food for the Coffee Morning.

Any a special mention to the hard working trio of Wendy, Grainne and Danielle who kept everyone very well fed and watered throughout the day.

A massive £250 was raised and will be reinvested into equipment for youth teams. But regardless of how much was raised it was great to see so many Gaels young and not so young help create a very welcoming and family friendly environment at the club today.

Youth;

Sigersons under 12 Boys had a fantastic trip to Croke Park on Saturday where they got to play at Half Time in the Tyrone v Roscommon game, an experience they will no doubt never forget.

Well done to our under 12 girls who earned a first victory of the season away to Drumragh on Monday night.

Best wishes to youth player Ruairi Tinney who broke his elbow on Monday whilst playing football for Strabane Athletic.

With both games played and the boys on three points Gortin needed to better Strabane's result against Owen Roes to relegate them to the shield semi finals but thankfully the Glen men got the better of Gortin leaving us with a though battle against Castlederg in the Cup Semi Final.

The tension during the Castlederg game was almost as high as the pitch side temperatures as both teams traded points leaving the scores tied at half time. With it all to play for in the second half the Strabane men played their best football of the day and scored several unanswered scores to gain a place in the Final.

Aghyaran had a epic encounter with Urney in the other Semi Final and even needed extra time to separate the teams. Given the late finish in the Aghyaran v Urney game the final was delayed to ensure the game took center stage in front of a sizeable crowd.

As the throw in approached the nerves were starting to show but Jason and John pulled themselves together on time to line out the team. Seriously though, if there was nerves on show it didn't show on either of the teams players as they battled out an enthralling first half with Sigersons fortunate to be leading by a couple at the break.

The second half saw the boys in blue dominate the initial and extend their lead to 5 points. But to be fair to Aghyaran they battled to the end ensuring that the Sigersons men worked hard for their much deserved victory. The final whistle initiated jubilent celebrations from the players, coaches and supporting parents. A scene that will hopefully be well rehearsed in the years to come with this talented and dedicated group of players.

A massive thank you as always to the travelling support and also well done and thankyou to Drumquin on hosting an excellent tournament.
