Congress: U20 and opening of stadia to non-GAA sports rules relaxed

A low-key 2019 GAA Congress in Wexford has given the green light to U20 footballers on senior inter-county panels to play county U20, but only after the senior team has been knocked out of the championship.
It follows the controversy surrounding rising Offaly star Cian Johnson who had to choose between playing championship for the Offaly senior and U20 teams last year.
Delegates also voted to give Central Council the power to open up provincial and national GAA grounds to other sports which should avoid a repeat of last year's Liam Miller benefit match controversy in the future. The motion passed by 91%.
Meanwhile, Kerry's motion proposing that U17s are allowed to play non-championship games for junior clubs only received 38% support and was therefore defeated, while counties must now submit their finalised teams for All-Ireland senior championship matches to the referees 40 minutes before throw-in rather than 20 minutes before throw-in after 66% of delegates voted in favour of the change.
