Clare forward Shane O’Donnell is one of the first Irish sports stars to be confirmed to play in this summer’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Pro-am.

The event is set to take place at Lahinch Golf Club from July 4-7 and will be hosted by 2014 Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.

O’Donnell linked up with the Clare panel again last month after returning home from his studies at Harvard University since last September.

Speaking to the Limerick Leader last week on his decision to play the event in his home county, the Banner men’s 2013 All-Ireland final hero stated:

“I’m delighted to be back in Ireland and thrilled to be taking part in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Pro Am.

“I’ve played at Lahinch a few times and it’s an incredible place to play. It’s great to be back on this side of the Atlantic Ocean and I suppose you don’t get much closer to being back in the USA than at Lahinch! As well as having the hurley back in my hands, I’ll have to get the clubs out too to practise. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Irish golfing stars Shane Lowry, Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell will be joined by fellow pros Louis Oosthuizen, Lee Westwood, Danny Willett and Tommy Fleetwood for the second Rolex Series event of the 2019 Race to Dubai, with more big names expected to be announced.
