Roscommon manager Ciaran Comerford believes that they had to defeat the elements as well as London in last weekend’s HL2B clash at Dr Hyde Park.

Social media erupted when a video of the goalposts shaking from side to side due to the strong winds as Storm Dennis hit the ground with a vengeance.

The game went ahead and Roscommon led by 0-09 to 0-03 at the break, but played into a strong wind in the second period and despite this, they held on for the win.

“We showed huge character in very tough conditions. Unless you walked the field, you could never understand how difficult that breeze was,” Comerford told the Roscommon Herald.

“We were six points ahead at half time. I was thinking that it might just be enough, and it transpired that way. We made a few changes in the second half.

“I wouldn’t say they suited us, but it allowed us to create a bit more space up front to get the scores we needed. In fairness, the pitch was top class. I’ve hurled in similar conditions but I’m glad it’s out of our way to be honest with you, rather than prolonging the thing another week.”
