Anthony Daly says there is "no merit" in playing Allianz Hurling League quarter-finals.

With Storm Dennis having claimed a number of games yesterday, it's looking like the hurling league final will be pushed back a week to March 29 for the second year in-a-row, but speaking on RTÉ Allianz League Sunday programme last night, Daly questioned the need to play quarter-finals and even semi-finals.

"Why we are playing league quarter-finals is beyond me. There is absolutely no merit in them," the two-time Clare All-Ireland SHC winning captain said.

"I’d even argue we shouldn’t be playing semi-finals: the top two should meet in a final.

"[That’s might mean] dead rubbers but if you go through it forensically you’d say there are dead rubbers already with the amount of changes certain teams are making.

"For me we have to tighten up on that and certainly quarter-finals have to go."
