Liam Watson celebrates after scoring 3-7 for Loughgiel Shamrocks in the 2012 All-Ireland club SHC final against Coolderry.

Former Loughgiel Shamrocks and Antrim sharpshooter Liam Watson announced his retirement this week.

The prolific forward gave one of the finest individual displays ever seen in Croke Park when he scored 3-7 for Loughgiel in their 2012 All-Ireland club SHC final victory over Coolderry.

Watson lifts the Lory Meagher Cup in 2017.

The 36-year-old had one last big day out at Croker in 2017 when he fired Warwickshire to a 0-17 to 0-11 victory over Leitrim in the Lory Meagher Cup final.

He tweeted: “After a long hard few months I have decided to retire from hurling altogether. I’m very lucky to have achieved nearly the lot in the sport. I've marked some great players down through my time. I regret absolutely nothing, I want to thank my family for their support over the years.”
