Galway SHC: champions remain on course

St Thomas' are just 120 minutes away from retaining their Galway SHC title after seeing off Tommy Larkins in the quarter-final on Saturday.

With county star Jason Flynn in fine scoring form, Tommy Larkins led by 0-13 to 0-10 with nine minutes to go, but the holders outscored them by 0-6 to 0-1 in the run-in to secure a 0-16 to 0-14 victory. Their semi-final opponents will be Turloughmore who powered to a 0-21 to 0-14 win over Craughwell.

The other semi-final will be contested by familiar foes Cappataggle and Liam Mellows following their respective victories over Loughrea and Sarsfields.

Tadhg Haran notched 0-11 and Conor Kavanagh and Ronan Elwood netted as 2017 winners Mellows eased past Sarsfields on a 2-16 to 0-6 scoreline, while Michael Garvey and Donal Mannion raised green flags for Cappataggle in their 2-18 to 0-14 win over Loughrea.

Both semi-finals will take place on the weekend after next.
