At a time when there is a great debate whether or not a tiered system would work in the All-Ireland SFC, Sligo hurler Keith Raymond has hailed the hurling format.

Sligo begin their Nicky Rackard Cup campaign on May 11th, having won the Lory Meagher for the first time in their history last June.

Speaking to the Sligo Champion, Raymond stated that the tiered system has afforded him and his team mates the opportunity to win silverware at Croke Park; the ultimate goal for any GAA player, something that would never have happened if the current format wasn’t in place.

“The Nicky Rackard championship is extremely beneficial to me personally and us as a team. The tiered system is brilliant as it allows us to compete at a level where we can set realistic targets of winning an All-Ireland medal in Croke Park,” said Raymond.

“The fact that it is named after a legend of the game who was selected on the team of the millennium makes the competition all the more attractive to win.”
