Glowing tributes paid to Frank Murphy after 46 years as Cork secretary

December 17, 2018

Frank Murphy has held the Cork county board secretary's position since 1972

Former GAA president Christy Cooney led the tributes to Frank Murphy after he stepped down as Cork secretary after a remarkable 46 years at Saturday's county convention.

"Frank has served not alone his county, but his club, his province and the association at national level with unbelievable distinction," Cooney said of the two-time All-Ireland hurling final referee, who has been succeeded in the full-time role by Kevin O'Donovan.

"We've had our little tiffs over the years, but the respect I hold for him would be as high as I hold for anybody. His life has been Cumann Luthchleas Gael."

Cork chair Tracey Kennedy said of the veteran administrator: "He has done more for Cork than I or anyone else can dream of doing. He has won many battles for Cork, both on the field and in the boardroom.

"I am acutely aware of how priviledged I am to have served with him."
