Cork chair Tracey Kennedy has assured clubs that they won’t be affected by the huge overspend on redeveloping Páirc Ui Chaoimh.

The cost of redeveloping the stadium has come in at almost €25 million over budget, but Kennedy insisted at last night’s annual convention that it will not impact on the day-to-day running of her county board.

“I want to categorically state again, and this has been said before, that there are absolutely not plans to levy clubs in any way in relation to the stadium project,” she is quoted as saying in the Irish Examiner.

“The stadium has not had, and will not have any impact on inter-county teams, apart from providing them with an all-weather venue on which to train.”

Kennedy also denied that Croke Park has taken over the running of the stadium, clarifying that Cork GAA had instead entered into a ‘commercial agreement’ with GAA HQ for a minimum of three years.
