Tipperary SHC final: Hammersley points the way for Clonoulty/Rossmore

Clonoulty/Rossmore are Tipperary senior hurling champions for the first time since 1997.

The west Tipperary outfit got the better of favourites Nenagh Eire Og by 0-23 to 2-13 in today’s decider at Semple Stadium.

Full-forward Timmy Hammersley top scored for the winners with 0-12 (9 frees) as they finished with four points to spare over a Nenagh outfit that sent holders Thurles Sarsfields packing at the semi-final stage.

Despite conceding a goal to Philip Hickey in the 19th minute, the John Devane coached winners took a 0-12 to 1-8 lead into the interval break.

Paddy Murphy netted a second goal for the John Fitzgerald managed Nenagh with seven minutes left on the clock.

That green flag parachuted his side into 2-12 to 0-17 lead but Hammersley soon fired Clonoulty/Rossmore back in front and they went on get their hands on the Dan Breen Cup.
