John Kiely and his Treaty County players withstood a late rally from holders Galway at GAA headquarters and an average audience of 846,100 tuned into RTÉ 2's live coverage on the Sunday Game.
The TV audience peaked at 1,007,500 as the game reached its exciting climax and 73% of those watching television at the time were watching the Liam MacCarthy Cup decider on RTÉ.
