Tipperary U21 boss Liam Cahill has refused to rule himself out for the county's vacant senior hurling manager's position.

Cahill's charges defeated Galway yesterday evening by 3-17 to 1-17 at the Gaelic Grounds to advance towards an All-Ireland final meeting with Cork and he described the post recently vacated by Michael Ryan as "a privileged role".

"I've been asked this question a few times of late, it comes with the territory of being involved in Tipperary teams," he is quoted saying by RTE Sport. "My passion is underage hurling in Tipperary, that's the reason I follow this group of players, from minor up through to U21.

"The Tipp senior job never really came into my mind to be honest, but I'm absolutely honoured to be linked to it. It's such a privileged role and such a big role.

"If it's a thing that Tipp are in dire straits for a manager, we won't let them go without giving them an option."

On whether or not he'd be putting his name forward, Cahill responded: "We'll see."
