All-Ireland MHC: Tribesmen clear Treaty County hurdle

July 08, 2018

Galway's Dean Reilly and Ben Herlihy of Limerick

Limerick were no match for Galway in today's All-Ireland MHC quarter-final clash at Semple Stadium.

The Tribesmen ran out 1-20 to 0-12 winners in the curtain-raiser to the Leinster SHC final replay.

Full-forward Donal O'Shea's return of 1-5 (3 frees, 1 65) was a key ingredient in their winning formula.

The game's only goal arrived just before the break and boosted the Connacht outfit into a 1-11 to 0-6 advantage at the halfway stage.

Cathal O'Neill (frees) pulled two points back for the Treaty County during the early second-half exchanges and Galway's lead was trimmed to five points with 10 minutes to play.

As events transpired, four unanswered points from the team in maroon and white put the issue beyond any doubt.

All is not lost for Limerick, however, as they will get a second bite of the cherry when they take on Kilkenny in the second game of the new-look All-Ireland MHC series.

That game is due to be played over the weekend of July 21/22.
